Living in Beaufort, NC: A Local’s Perspective
Living in Beaufort, especially just a mile from downtown, offers a rhythm that’s hard to replicate anywhere else on the Crystal Coast. My mornings start early on the waterfront with the F3 Nation crew. We get after it before most people are awake—workout, coffee, and a few laughs—all before sunrise. On the drive home, the sky lights up and the wild horses are usually out on Carrot Island. It’s quiet, peaceful, and a reminder of why Beaufort is such a special place to call home.
Downtown in the mornings feels like your own private coastal town. Not much traffic, just a few locals out walking or biking. One of the biggest advantages of living here is proximity—everything is close. Whether it’s by bike, golf cart, or on foot, getting around town is easy and enjoyable.
During the summer, Thursdays mean one thing: Rock the Docks. Hosted by the Beaufort Business Association, it’s free live music right on the waterfront. It brings people together without losing that laid-back Beaufort feel.
Evenings are just as good. After work, you’ll see people heading downtown to catch the sunset, grab dinner, and unwind. Spots like Black Sheep Beaufort, Clawson's 1905 Restaurant & Pub, and Stillwater Beaufort are local favorites. Despite the summer tourism, Beaufort never feels overwhelming—it stays quiet, quaint, and full of charm. The tree-lined streets provide plenty of shade, making evening walks even better.
One of my favorite simple moments is heading to the end of Front Street, sitting on the bench, and watching dolphins swim by. It never gets old.
There’s also a strong sense of community here. The The Periwinkle hosts a run club every Wednesday at 5:30 called the No Wake Hash Harriers. Just show up, run, and hang out after—beer or water, your call.
On weekends, the farmers market at the courthouse lawn is a staple. Local vendors bring everything from fresh produce and meats to handmade goods like pottery and handbags.
Living in Beaufort, NC isn’t just about the scenery—it’s about the lifestyle. It’s slower, intentional, and built around community, nature, and simple daily moments.
